On November 17th, the MPA-EPM Alumni Mentoring Workshop kicked-off with alum Elisabeth Sedmik from the World Bank; Education Global Practice - Middle East and North Africa region.
The workshops are designed for students to ask alumni about the organizations they work for, what makes them successful in their positions and the qualities that they look for in new hires.
Elisabeth Sedmik is a MPA-EPM graduate of the Class of 2015 and is currently an Analyst in the Education Global Practice Unit at the World Bank. Her work as been featured in the Business Insider with her research on Vietnamese education and her report on Enhancing School Quality in Vietnam through Participative and Collaborative Learning was published this October. This month Elisabeth was hired as a a full-time Analyst for the Middle East and North Africa region in the Education Global Practice Unit at the World Bank.
When asked, what preparation did you do to help you with the interview process Elisabeth responded:
"I would recommend thoroughly researching the unit you will be interviewing with. If available, look at the job descriptions and find links to your own experience and what you are doing at MPA-EPM. Have some examples of previous research/work ready when you go to the interview. Even if you have not specifically done analysis on what they are looking for, show that you have tackled similar problems and are confident to take on tasks that are new to you. You need to be quick and think of examples of what you have done that fits their description."
Current student Beenish Amjad (MPA-EPM'18) found that Elisabeth's workshop was "helpful in that her insight and guidance is invaluable and will help me a great deal in finding job/consultancy."
