Matt received a BA in economics and environmental science from the University of Virginia in 2016 where he specialized in environmental and biological conservation.  After graduation he worked for a year as a research assistant investigating the effect of ground water pollution on economic and health outcomes in Rajasthan, India. Before that he worked as a research assistant analyzing the abatement costs of a large utility to comply with EPA environmental policy.

His current research interest is focused on resource and energy economics in developing nations. He is particularly interested in countries in Latin America, Vietnam, and India.
