Bonnie Ewart-Fisher (she/her/hers) is a first-year MIA student concentrating in Human Rights and Humanitarian Policy with a regional specialization in East Asia. She earned her bachelor's degree in East Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of Kansas. Prior to SIPA, she worked for several years in Tokyo as a public relations consultant for one of Japan's largest communications agencies where she led a national public service campaign for HPV vaccination and  advocated for over-the-counter availability for emergency contraceptives in Japan, among other projects for NPOs, multinational organizations, financial institutions, and major pharmaceutical companies. She also worked as an English teacher in rural Japan and volunteered with the US Embassy in Tokyo helping to increase interest in study abroad programs among Japanese youth. Before living in Japan, she worked as an admissions counselor supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds.

She is passionate about educational access, gender parity, and languages and speaks Japanese fluently. In her free time she enjoys exercising, snowboarding, reading, and painting watercolors.
